Working/Research Focus: Prof. Maciej Machaczka graduated in Medicine in 1993 from the Collegium Medicum of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland. He served as a visiting physician at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Centre in Seattle, U.S.A in 1999. He completed his PhD thesis in 2000 based on studies on P-glycoprotein mediated multidrug resistance in adults with de novo acute myeloid leukemia. He then moved in 2002 to Sweden, were he become a specialist in Hematology in 2005. Between 2008 and 2018 he worked as a Senior Attending Physician at the Hematology Center Karolinska, Karolinska University Hospital Huddinge and Research Scientist at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm. Professor of Medicine at the University of Rzeszow in Poland since 2013. Section Head at the South Hospital in Stockholm since 2018. He is author and co-author of over 100 scientific peer-reviewed papers.

Prof. Machaczka interest areas in Gaucher disease focus on clinical and pathological aspects of type 1 and Norrbottnian type 3B of Gaucher disease.

What is the EWGGD for me?: A team of clinicians, scientists and patients which can together move forward and facilitate progress in understanding of all aspects of this fascinating inherited disorder. I believe that we can have impact on fact-based, optimal care of patients suffering from this disease.
